A Home – Not a Hospital

Penns Mount is a historic residential site built in 1925, originally developed as a private house by Joseph George Clark the managing director of Newton Abbot and District Gas and Coke Co.  The house which has now been developed into a lovely, homely care home, situated on a hill with panoramic views of Dartmoor and the Teign Estuary.

Penns Mount care home caters for 22 residents, who enjoy the benefit of centrally heated, mostly en-suite rooms, both single and double. They are comfortably furnished, tastefully decorated, light and airy, with the emphasis on – ‘Home’, not hospital. Each room has an electronic call system. Many of the rooms have superb far-reaching views, while others enjoy an attractive outlook over the garden, the beautiful grounds are enjoyed by the residents especially during the warmer months.

The care home caters for people age 65 + to include physical disabilities, dementia (mild) and general frailty. The Home is adapted for the use of wheelchairs, and our facilities include bath hoists, mobility hoists, disabled toilets, walk-in shower – to aid clients and staff – and of course a supply of wheelchairs.
